Legal ConsiderationsIt is the responsibilty of the people placing and receiving the cat to make sure that all applicable laws are obeyed and any required licenses and permits are obtained. Special care should be taken with interstate transactions. Tranferring a cat across state lines can be a violation of a federal law known as the Lacey Act if both parties are not legal owners. Cats placed in homes where ownership is illegal or the owners do not have the required permits are subject to being confiscated and in many cases euthanized. For the good of the cat, make sure you are POSITIVE that the new home is legal.
