Code of Ethics

All use of this site is subject to our Code of Ethics. Users who violate the Code of Ethics may be banned from future participation in this network.

Truthful Representation

Parties should represent the situations surrounding each placement truthfully (i.e. the adoptive parents shall not claim that their animal was abused if that was not the case).

Policy on Private Owners

It is the policy of this site and this network that responsible private ownership of exotic cats should be allowed and supported. We feel that in many cases private owners can provide a higher standard of care than overcrowded zoos and sanctuaries. Therefore, anyone placing a cat through this network must agree not to discriminate against any potential owner on the basis of their status as a private owner.

ny potential home, whether it be a private owner, zoo, sanctuary, or breeding facility should be evaluated based on its abilty to provide an optimal home for the individual cat in question. For example, a cat that is accustomed to being a household pet will generally be best off being placed with a private owner as a pet. An animal that is afraid of humans could be a good match for a small, secluded sanctuary. A genetically valuable member of an endangered species might be best served by placement in a qualified breeding facility, and so forth.

Adoption Fees

Use the website only for the purpose of finding new homes for exotic felines in need. It is not for selling animals or as a venue to raise funds, nor for owners to try to recoup the cost of an animal they purchased and now wish to place elsewhere.

You may ask a maximum adoption fee of $100.00, in addition to asking the new owner to reimburse shipping expenses.

If you have an adult animal and have to give it up, perhaps your concern would be to find the best home with someone who is familiar with servals and understand the problems that will come with the transfer, rather than trying to get your money back. If circumstances absolutely will not allow you to keep your serval, (after you have made a true effort) than do all you can to find the best home for the animal you can because it's the very least they deserve.

Boarding and Other Fees

Foster homes should not charge unreasonably high "boarding" fees as a condition of an owner's getting his or her cat back.

Compliance With Laws

It is the responsibilty of the people placing and receiving the cat to make sure that all applicable laws are obeyed and any required licenses and permits are obtained. Special care should be taken with interstate transactions. Tranferring a cat across state lines can be a violation of a federal law known as the Lacey Act if both parties are not legal owners.

Cats placed in homes where ownership is illegal or the owners do not have the required permits are subject to being confiscated and in many cases euthanized. For the good of the cat, make sure you are POSITIVE that the new home is legal.
